PREFACE
~~~~~~~
This document is intended as a companion to the SDNMaker(c)
utility as used to prepare electronic submissions to SDN
International for Commercial Distribution Services.
Most online services and CDROM publishers will only take true
shareware, that is, productive applications, utilities, games,
reference databases, etc.. and will not accept plain
informative or reading material. A few electronic magazine
periodical are an exception. Novels, advertisement slide shows
or reading, political dissertations and other similar things are
generally not accepted by most.
SIZE LIMITATIONS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is a reasonable size limitation for one program version.
The limit is the capacity of 3 megs. Special pricing and
arrangements must be made for programs exceeding this size.
TAG EXPLANATION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Each site SDN can deliver to at this time, is listed below.
Many of the sites offer special cooperation with SDN. Each site
is under independent management.
There are three description tags used in this list. Their
explanation follows.
Sites Accepts: This tag tells what operating system type
software the site or network will accept for
posting consideration.
Media Tye: Indicates the type of site it is or what network
community it serves.
FEE and EXPLANATION OF DISTRIBUTION SERVICES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Submission must be prepared and meet the criteria of the SDN
Author Kit currently posted at The SDN Project BBS in Mediren,
Conneticut, U.S.A. Either as Postal Mail submissions on disks,
or SDNMaker electronic submission.
SDN charges a flat fee for blanket distribution services, not on
a per site basis. SDN's fee for Commercial Distribution Serives
is $45.00 U.S. dollars per program version for delivery to all
sites listed that will accept the program type of software. SDN
will give concerted delivery attempts (up to two weeks) when
meet with technical delivery problems.
Sites may change without notice due to sites experiencing
connection problems, full storage disks, etc..
BUNDLE PRICE
~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you will be distributing more than three programs at the same
time, you can obtain a "bulk" price, a discount price. Send me
email stating how many programs, how many disks, and I will send
back a proposed bulk price.
DEMO SERIVES
~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is a flat fee of $200.00 U.S. for distribution of
coperate non-shareware demos. A demo is considered a
demostration copy of a commercial retail software package that
is purchased through normal retail channels and has no shareware
registration fee. Companies wishing demo distribution should

Media Type: Online service
Accessible through direct lines, dialup network, and the
Internet. Very popular and fast growing. They also
accept e-zines in their "Writers" forum. Distribution
here should be considered a "must".
BIX
~~~

Media Type: Online service
BIX Online Service (Delphi Internet Services). BIX is
based in North America. It is accessible internationally.
BIX is generally used by a more technical user and is
accessible by direct lines, dialup networks, and through
the Internet.
BITS&BYTES

Media Type: Supplies online services, CDROM, direct mail.
Bits&Bytes runs downloading areas on Prodigy online
service and special areas on America Online.
WINSITE (formerly CICA)

Media Type: Internet and CDROM
Formely located at The Center For Innovative Computer
Applications, WinSite(tm) is now mirrored at CICA but
located at it's own ftp and www servers. It publishes
it's own published CDROMs. WinSite is mirrored many times
on the Internet and should be considered is an important
site. It is reference by c/net's (VSL) Virtual Shareware
Library, a hot spot. Delivery here requires a special
upload template different for each operating system.
Delivery to this site is not available to authors who
submit by postal mail. It's upload template can be
completed with the SDNMaker utility.
DELPHI

Media Type: Online service
Delphi is agressive as an online service and has
integrated well with the Internet. SDN files are posted
in the PC-Focus Forum.
FIDONET
~~~~~~~

Media Type: Thousands of local bulletin boards
SDN operates it's own FDN (File Distribution Network)
inside Fidonet. Composed of 30,000 bulletin boards world
wide, not all of them carry SDN, it is estimated between
10,000 to 18,000 do at any time. It is impossible to know
as Fidonet thousands of individual systems linked
together, is very dynamic. SDN is the oldest established
FDN and probably the most linked carried. Files are
distributed world wide by many means including two
satellite services. Many large BBSes such as EXEC-PC are
connected.
GARBO
~~~~~
Site Accepts: WIN31 DOS
Media Type: Internet (mirrored) and CDROM
Garbo is located at in Finland. Very popular with Europe,
they also have published CDROMs. Garbo is very selective
about the programs they post. It is mirrored around the
world and considered a major shareware site in the
Internet community. Garbo requires a special upload
template that SDNMaker can produce. This site is not
available for distribution if do no submit via SDNMaker.
NIGHTOWL

Media Type: Online services, CDROMs
The NightOwl CDROM has been produced on a regular basis
for years. The CD is popular with BBS sysops as it plugs
online with little fuss. NightOwl also operates it's own
bulletin board.
SLOVAK ANTIVIRUS CENTER (elf)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Site Accepts: WIN31 WIN95 WINNT DOS OS/2
Media Type: Internet (mirrored)
Located in eastern Europe, this Internet site has a
dedicated SDN area in the works. It is mirrored a few
places including in the United States and Berlin, Germany.
The SDN area is in development and promising for European
convience. This is a difficult site to off-load to.
For awhile, elf is an automatic delivery to their SDN area.
COAST TO COAST SOFTWARE REPOSITORY

Media Type: Internet and CDROM
The Coast To Coast Software Repository, accessible through
the Internet, has published CDROMs and ftp posting. This
is site and CD are referred to as Simtel. It is mirrored
about 50 or more times on the Internet. Shareware
programs only. No games. It is referenced by c/net's VSL
(Virtual Shareware Library).
ZIFF DAVIS INTERACTIVE

Media Type: Internet, Online services, and CDROM
Ziff Davis is very active in computer publications, they
operate file areas on a few online services including
Compuserve, Prodigy, and MSN (Mircosoft Network). The
publish CDROMs and licenses CDROM material to other. They
accept all SDN can give them. Shareware programs only, no
e-zines.
NOVALINK INTERACTIVE

Media Type: Online service
Novalink is young and growing. Accessible by direct line,
dial up networks, and through the Internet, they accept
all SDN can deliver.
QUANTUM
~~~~~~~

Media Type: Online service. Satellite also.
Quantum is a growing online service. It can be reached by
local dialup, telenet and through a satellite link. They
are in the process of construction of a dedicated SDN
area.
SIMTEL AT WALNUT CREEK

Media Type: Internet and CDROM
SimTel at Walnut Creek publishes it's own CDROMs and
licenses publication of CDROMs. This Internet site is
mirrored many times. The site is broken up into
collections which represent CDROMs they have published or
other sites they mirror. This is an important site for
coverage.
WINDOWS WORLD

Media Type : Internet WWW site
Availability: SDNMaker and plain Postal submissions
An Internet WWW site. Very popular and well run. The
programs are laid out online with good descriptions for
web browsers. Great for downloading via http protocol.
Will accept Windows only.
